Why Chemical-Free Cleaning Is Better for Your Family (And Your Home)

Introduction

If you've ever cleaned your bathroom and felt your eyes water or your throat tighten, you've experienced the downside of conventional cleaning products. Most commercial cleaners are loaded with chemicals like ammonia, bleach, and synthetic fragrances — substances that may get surfaces sparkling but leave behind something you can't see: air pollution inside your own home.

At Herb'n Living, we've built our entire business around a simple belief: you shouldn't have to choose between a clean home and a healthy one.

The Hidden Problem with Traditional Cleaning Products

The average household contains dozens of cleaning products, and studies have shown that indoor air can actually be more polluted than outdoor air — largely due to the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released by these products. For families with young children, pets, or anyone with asthma or allergies, this is a serious concern.

Common culprits include:

•        Bleach-based disinfectants that irritate airways

•        Ammonia in glass cleaners that can trigger asthma attacks

•        Synthetic fragrances that mask odors rather than eliminate them

•        Phthalates found in many scented products, linked to hormonal disruption

The Green Cleaning Difference

Green cleaning doesn't mean less effective — it means smarter. At Herb'n Living, our locally made, all-natural products are formulated to tackle dirt, grime, and bacteria without leaving behind a chemical residue. The result? A home that's genuinely clean, with air that's safe to breathe.

Our Green Cleaning Technicians are trained to deliver a thorough, professional clean using products that are:

•        Free of harsh chemicals, bleach, and synthetic fragrances

•        Safe for children, pets, and sensitive individuals

•        Biodegradable and environmentally responsible

Signs It's Time to Make the Switch

You might be ready for green cleaning if you or someone in your household experiences headaches after cleaning, has worsening allergies or asthma, has young children or pets who spend time on floors, or if you simply care about reducing your environmental footprint.

3 household items that help rid plastic containers of smelly odors

Green Living Tip

Tip 1:

Baking soda – Mix the desired amount of baking soda and water to make a paste. Cover the interior of the container with the paste and set aside for at least 24 hours. Rinse and repeat if needed.

Tip 2:

Used coffee grounds- put wet or dry grounds in container and let it sit overnight. ~ Bonus smells like coffee :)

Tip 3:

Lemon – Rub the interior to the container with a halved lemon. Rinse and repeat if necessary.

Recommendation:

Consider transitioning to glass containers. They don't absorb odor and are better for your health and the environment.

Herb'n Tip: How to clean your wood cutting board

Herb'n-Living-Maid-cleaning-tip

Here are four steps on how to clean and maintain you wood cutting board.

Clean

Immediately after using your wood cutting board, wash with soap and hot water. Stand up in your drying rack and allow all sides to dry. Remember soaking wood or not allowing it to dry will warp and cause cracks in your cutting board.

Deep Clean

Rub ½ teaspoon of sea salt or baking powder on each side of your wood cutting board and half of a juiced or un-juiced lemon to remove stains. (Once you’re done with the lemon, toss the ride into the garbage disposal to freshen!)

Deodorize

To remove odors from your cutting board, wipe both sides down with white vinegar and wipe dry.

Condition

To maintain the longevity and appearance, rub with mineral oil for a finishing touch!
